Yup, that's right. You will only need 6 simple ingredients to make a truly delicious and super healthy green juice!
I personally find green juice a really refreshing and healthy way to enjoy all sorts of nutrients and vitamins from the fruits and vegetables and not to mention, it's very easy to make at home! This recipe delivers a good balance between full vegetable flavours and a hint of natural sweetness. Hands down, it's one of my favourite juice combinations.
INGREDIENTS:
Big handful of spinach (fresh/frozen)
1 small cucumber
1/2 lemon (remember to remove the skin)
Handful of frozen mango
1/2 cup coconut water
Splash of filtered water
Instructions:
The most important tip for this recipe is to buy the freshest ingredients you can find.
1. Wash your ingredients really well (no need to dry) and chop them, skin and all, into chunks.
2. Add all of the ingredients into a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.
3. Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh strainer, pressing on the solids with the back of a spoon to extract as much juice as possible. You can also use a nut milk bag.
4. Chill until nice and cold, pour into a glass and enjoy!
TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND:
- This juice is best enjoyed right after you blend and strain it, though you can keep it in the fridge overnight. (I strongly recommend to have it immediately! 😜)
- As the juice sits, you’ll notice that it will start to separate. But don’t worry, just give it a good stir before you drink it.
- If you notice your juice turning a bit brown – that’s due to oxidization of the apples but again, don't worry, it is still totally fine to drink it.
CUstomizing your juice:
Similar to a smoothie, you can customize this juice based on your likings. I would suggest using this recipe as a starting point and experiment with different ingredients based on what looks good at the grocery store along with your own preferences:
- Add lots of greens. Look for high-quality fresh greens that are firm and bright in color, not wilted or spotted. I used baby spinach here, but kale also works well for blending. If you like romaine lettuce or collards, you can try those too! I will sometimes use a blend of different greens to give it a more complex flavour.
- Stick with a healthy liquid base. I used coconut water in this recipe but you can just stick with filtered/distilled water if preferred. Using vegetables like celery and cucumber will help to provide moisture in your juice blend. It’s best not to add lots of fruit or fruit juice so you can keep the amount of sugar down.
- Add some herbs. If you're someone who likes a herbal note then you may want to consider adding parsley and cilantro to the mixture. I'm personally not a big fan so feel free to skip this if it's also not for you. Having said that, I might sometimes add in a few mint leaves as it makes the drink even more refreshing.
- Boost with superfoods. Try adding ground turmeric, cinnamon, maca powder, or bee pollen to level up on the nutrition.
